what we believe

what we believe

We are people with a message. That message is Jesus Christ and him crucified; the free grace of God; justification by faith apart from our own efforts; and the reality and power of the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit in the human heart.

All that might sound like a lot of jargon, but it is powerful stuff that speaks to our deep need for acceptance and renewal. We’d love the chance to explain it a little.

We know too that it matters how we hold and communicate these beliefs. They are not a stick to hit people with. Nor do they give us reason to think we are better than anyone else. At the centre of our faith is a man laying down his life for his enemies. These beliefs make us want to do the same.

Our worldview is the big story of the Bible. This story begins with ‘Creation’ and ‘Fall’ before unfolding God’s plan of ‘Redemption’ and ‘New Creation’ in Christ.

Above all, we are concerned to know God himself. We believe that he formed us to know him, and that our hearts will always be restless until they find their rest in him.

We have a formal Statement of Faith which you can read here. For more detail we look to the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith which you can find here.
